<p>One problem is, understandably, there is no pop-up alert (it is a web-app after all!) for new emails.</p>
<p>Using <a href="http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/" target="_blank">Growl (for Windows)</a> – OWATray provides this much-missed feature (see below)</p>
